Presbyterian Women
The Presbyterian Women's Organization provides an excellent avenue for
Bible study, fellowship, and service. Groups of women are divided into
Circles. One Circle meets at 10:00 AM on the first Monday and another at
1:30 on that day; four meet at 10 AM on the first Tuesday; and a night
circle meets in the Lighthouse on the second Wednesday at 7:30 PM. Most
circles meet in the homes of members. Study as well as mission projects
and personal support all combine to make the meetings a time of sharing
and caring. For more information, please contact the PW Moderator Nancy
Chiles at 638-2346 or

House Church Groups
The purpose of the House Church Program at First Presbyterian Church is
to help adult members of the church find fellowship and belonging, a very
important thing in a church a large church like ours. Each House Church
meets in member's homes once a month October through May for a covered
dish meal and a program. Each person brings a previously assigned food.
The gathering opens and closes with prayer. The group shares a meal and
then joins in a guided discussion. For more information, call Sarah Evans
at the church office, 637-3270.
Shepherd Program
We believe that as we find ways for our congregation to stand together,
know each other, and give support, we are fulfilling some of what Jesus
Christ has called us to do as His church. Through approximately 50
shepherd groups we are building a community of faith through knowing one
another better, incorporating new members by establishing for them a
network of new friends, and giving sensitive support when there is an
illness, joyful experience, or death within a family. The Shepherd will
render care and make contacts in accordance with the wishes of each
family. For more information on the Shepherd Program, call Shirley Rogers
at the church office, 637-3270.
Weekday Preschool
First Presbyterian Church operates a weekday preschool in our the
J.Murphy Smith Fellowship Center from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon, for
children 15 months through 4 years old. For more information, call our
Preschool Director at 636-0067.
Special Fellowship
Events
Our mid-month fellowship gathering is announced in advance. It is
hosted each month by a different commission of the church. These events
offer fellowship, a meal and education regarding the work of the church.
Prayer Ministry
The First Presbyterian Church maintains a Prayer Chain composed of
about forty five people who actively and regularly pray for any who desire
to place a prayer request on the list of concerns. A prayer request may be
submitted in any one of several ways:
- Call the 24 - hour prayer line at 634-4286. The phone line is managed
in a confidential manner.
- Write your prayer request on one of the prayer request cards found in
the pew. The cards may be placed in the offering plate or mailed to the
church office.
- Call Kathleen Harris, Prayer Chain coordinator, at 636-2257.
- Inform either of the two ministers.
- Send a confidential prayer request via e-mail to
firstpresnewbern@esisnet.com
All requests are carefully screened to insure confidentiality. Those
that do not require complete privacy are forwarded weekly to the people
that serve on the Prayer Chain.
